We also announced our second grant recipient, Food Fort, as a winner during the awards held at Howard L. Hawks Hall on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Created about two years ago by Ben and Michaela Akridge, Food Fort is a relatively new nonprofit that not only provides basic nutrition for the children of Lincoln, but also maintains a team of safe constants in their life. The organization offers warm meals and fresh produce to children once a week in three under-resourced neighborhoods and teaches them how to prepare quality meals in a family environment.
Food Fort will use the $2,500 grant to improve their Fresh Produce Program, enabling them to build a self-contained trailer with cold storage that will hold more produce and prevent spoilage.
Strive to Thrive Lincoln is excited to see how successful Food Fort’s project will become and how they will grow in the coming year.
