Incorporating elements of career development into curriculum helps students connect their academic experience to their professional goals. Developing a resume incorporating course projects prompts students to describe what they have learned and how they can apply it in an internship or job. Practicing interview questions calls for them to articulate that in person. Researching and connecting with employers at a career fair introduces them to opportunities for which their academics have or will prepare them. These are just a few assignments already in courses at Nebraska.

Career Services offers resources and support to facilitate career development in the classroom. Career Services staff are available to do presentations on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and other career related topics (request a presentation at https://careers.unl.edu/presentation-request-form). Advisors and Coaches provide personalized guidance to students on exploring and connecting majors and careers, positioning themselves through application materials, and job and internship search strategy. Career Services also makes available systems such as Big Interview, which allows students to create and record practice interviews. These interviews can be developed and reviewed by faculty as well. Resources such as Handshake (https://careers.unl.edu/handshake) and GoinGlobal (https://online.goinglobal.com/) help students research opportunities and employers.
