Theatrix, UNL's student-operated theatre organization, closes the fall season with "Melancholy Play." Performances are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 in the Temple Building's Lab Theatre. Individual show tickets, available online or at the door, are $6.
"Melancholy Play," written by Tony Award-nominated playwright Sarah Ruhl, features Tilly, a beautiful and melancholy woman with whom everyone falls in love. However, one day Tilly is suddenly happy and everything gets strange.
The production includes a live cellist playing a score by Michael Roth. The cellist for the Theatrix production is Jake Denney, a recent UNL graduate.
The cast features Jessica Tidball as Tilly, Jenny Holm as Frances, Lucy Myrtue as Joan, Billy Jones as Frank, David Michael Fox as Lorenzo, and Jake Denney as Julian.
Joshua Waterstone, a second-year Master of Fine Arts student in the directing for stage and screen program, directs the production. The stage manger is Ben Adams, an undergraduate with a directing and management emphasis.
The design includes technical design graduate students Vicki Halverson (lead), Erica King (props master) and Julie Douglass (costume designer). Undergraduate Sarah Resch on lighting design rounds out the design team.
Jaimie Gruden, a UNL undergraduate music student, composed music sung by the cast.
Technical direction is by Matt Rightmire, a second-year technical graduate student.
