Dean candidate Bardet at public presentation Feb. 24

Jean-Pierre Bardet, a candidate for dean of the College of Engineering, is one of five selected by the search committee for campus visits Feb. 20-March 9. Bardet will give a public presentation 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at Walter Scott Engineering Center room 237.

Currently professor and chair of the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Veterbi School of Engineering at University of Southern California (since 2006), he also is director (since 2009) of the USC Center on Megacities. Originally educated in France, Bardet received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. His research interests are in civil infrastructure systems, geomechanics; geotechnical engineering; and earthquake engineering.

Other candidates are James Alleman from Iowa State University, Mark Law from University of Florida, Alice E. Smith of Auburn University, and Timothy Wei of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
