The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will host a live broadcast of Gounod's "Faust" at noon Dec 10. An encore performance is at 1 p.m., Dec. 11. The performance is part of "The Met: Live in HD" series of live broadcasts from New York City's Metropolitan Opera House.

With Jonas Kaufmann in the title role, Renee Pape as the devil, and Marina Poplavskaya as Marguerite, Gounod's classic retelling of the Faust legend couldn't be better served. Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff updates the story to the first half of the 20th century with a production that won praise in London last season. Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts on the heels of his Don Carlo success. This is a new Met production.

The opera's expected running time is four hours and 10 minutes.

Tickets are $23 general admission, $21 senior citizens, $16 for Ross members, students and children, and $5 for UNL students (with valid NCard).
