Help Lincoln children and teens have supplies to succeed in school by donating school supplies November 5-16. Drop off supplies in bins by Welcome Center, third & fifth floors.
Led by Nebraska Business students enrolled in the Leading People and Projects (MNGT 411) class, students receive more than knowledge of what it takes to give back to their community – they are empowered to lead each stage of the grant application process, concluding with the distribution of up to $10,000 per semester to local nonprofits. The class project, known as Strive to Thrive Lincoln, receives funding from the combined efforts of Rhonda Seacrest, a long-time community volunteer with a passion for education, and Doris Buffett’s Learning By Giving Foundation.
In addition to granting money, students also provide their time to various nonprofits. They chose to coordinate a donation drive to benefit the Salvation Army because of how the organization is aligned with this semester’s grant mission, which changes each semester. This semester’s mission is to grant funds to organizations that empower disadvantaged families in Lincoln/Lancaster County to attain sustainable, positive change, with special consideration given to those organizations that serve youth.
