Over fall break, Middle School Scholars from Educational Talent Search spent an exciting day exploring UNL’s campus through hands-on science and engineering activities! Students experimented with fundamental scientific principles as they created retro lava lamps and crafted their own kinetic sand sculptures—blending creativity with discovery.

After a fun morning of experiments, the group enjoyed lunch at Willa Cather Dining Hall, getting a taste of college life firsthand. The day concluded with an engaging presentation from the UNL Engineering Ambassadors, who introduced students to the fascinating world of Rube Goldberg machines. Scholars learned how simple machines work together to create complex, chain-reaction inventions—ending the day inspired by their very own power of innovation and teamwork!
