Use the Holiday Break to Prepare for Your Job and Internship Search

In between holiday snacking and movie watching, take a few minutes to prepare for your job or internship search. You’ll be glad you are ready before actually needing to apply!

- Review your resume and make updates. Did your GPA change? Did you add a minor? Were you involved in a student organization? Did you gain any new skills?

- Look at your LinkedIn profile. Does it match your resume? Is it complete? Is it accurate with the name of your degree (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) and your anticipated graduation date? Review your headline and about sections – do they reflect your current career goals and interests?

- Update your Handshake profile. Upload your latest resume and review your profile to make sure it matches LinkedIn and your resume. Take a moment to complete any new profile sections to increase the likelihood of you coming up in employer searches.

The holiday break is also a great time to build your network.

- Use LinkedIn or HuskerConnect (huskerconnect.unl.edu) to reach out to professionals who can offer insight into career paths, industries, and geographic locations.

- Reconnect with friends and update them on your goals.

- Consider asking family to suggest professionals that you might be able to shadow or have an informational interview.

- Research student organizations that you might want to join to further build your network. Check https://business.unl.edu/current-students/student-organizations/ for ones in the College of Business or https://unl.campuslabs.com/engage/ for others at UNL.

Business Career Center career coaches are available during this time to help you with your strategy and materials. We look forward to a great semester!
