As part of a long-term strategy to increase service reliability, UNL ITS will be working towards extending the campus Active Directory and ADFS infrastructure to a cloud provider. The goal of this change would be to allow continuation of services in the event of a major campus outage for an extended period of time. The most visible impact of this change would be that Office 365 email would continue to be accessible to users even if our campus infrastructure was unavailable.
The first step in implementing this strategy is building a secure network connection to our cloud provider. To accomplish this, all of the campus Active Directory Domain Controllers need to move to a new network segment. As a result of this move, all of the Domain Controllers will be assigned new IP addresses.
If you are accessing the Domain Controllers by DNS name, those connections will continue to function and you will see no impact. However, if you are accessing by the IP address of the DC, you will need to update those connections. As a proactive measure, you can update any connections to the domain controllers to reference the DNS name instead of IP address.
To minimize disruption, the Domain Controllers will be moved at different times and the dates of each move will be announced prior to the move occurring.
The first DC move will occur on June 16 at 10:00 am.
