Windstream workers have begun repairing underground telephone cables between the Canfield Administration Building South and the Nebraska Union.
Windstream workers have begun repairing underground telephone cables between the Canfield Administration Building South and the Nebraska Union.

It was recently discovered that telephone cables feeding parts of City Campus have been damaged. The cables effected are major trunk lines providing the majority of the telephone service to UNL’s city campus.

Windstream began working to replace the damaged cables beginning Wednesday, June 29.

Due to the size of the cables and the number of connections contained within, the work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. Various city campus telephone sets may experience brief, one-to-two minute outages while the new connections are being made.

Windstream reported that a majority of campus may not notice these small cutovers; however, Information Technology Services is taking preventative measures with key operational departments and plans to have staff onsite at various buildings during the next two weeks.

If you experience a telephone outage that last longer than the described one to two minute outage, please contact Centrex services at 472-3434 or is-centrex@unl.edu.
