Students in PLAS 425/AGRO 825 Cover Crops in Agroecosystems harvest their cover crop mixtures and collect data on the ecosystem services provided, including weed suppression and nitrogen fixation.

Students in PLAS 425/AGRO 825 Cover Crops in Agroecosystems harvest their cover crop mixtures and collect data on the ecosystem services provided, including weed suppression and nitrogen fixation.

They also excavated underwear from beneath the cover crop plots. This fun activity shows the effects of microbial decomposition.

During this class, students explore the management, environmental, economic, and social considerations of cover crops across a diversity of agricultural production systems and regions. Andrea Basche and Sam Wortman, both associate professors in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, teach the course.
