The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers innovative courses in the spring 2025 pre-session, which runs from Jan. 2 to 17. For all students in varying majors who appreciate plants and being outside, please consider PLAS 496 Introduction to Plant Identification.

Wildlife, biology, and agriculture students can learn the basics of plant parts before taking more complex courses later in their academic careers.

This course will teach students working knowledge of tools and concepts central to understanding a plant's complex structure and diversity. Topics include characteristics of plant groups, specific terminology necessary to recognize the top three plant families in the Great Plains, usage of technical keys, and the ability to communicate with proper vocabulary and photographs.

This is a one-credit course taught by Cheryl Dunn, lecturer and herbarium curator in agronomy and horticulture.
