Husker Cancer Support, Strength in Every Story: Honoring, Supporting, Inspiring
Husker Cancer Support, Strength in Every Story: Honoring, Supporting, Inspiring

LINCOLN, Neb. — The University of Nebraska–Lincoln invites students, faculty, and staff, to come together for Husker Cancer Support 2025, a heartfelt campus-wide initiative dedicated to raising cancer awareness, honoring survivors, and supporting those impacted by the disease. This year’s theme, “Strength in Every Story: Honoring, Supporting, Inspiring,” underscores the power of shared experiences and the resilience found within the UNL community.

The event will take place on Friday, April 18, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Prairie Suite of the Nebraska East Union.

Attendees will hear from guest speakers, engage in inspiring storytelling, and participate in a meaningful group activity designed to foster solidarity and hope. A highlight of the program will be a special recognition ceremony honoring UNL individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to cancer awareness, support, and advocacy efforts over the past year.

The inspiration behind this event is deeply personal. Event organizer Trey Lamkins, a senior in Plant and Landscape Systems, was moved to action following the loss of his mother to stage 4 lung cancer in August 2023. Her strength and compassion in the face of adversity continue to fuel his dedication to building a supportive and empathetic campus environment.

“My mother taught me to lead with empathy and to stand up for the underdog,” Lamkins shared. “This event is my way of honoring her legacy and offering others a space to feel seen, supported, and uplifted.”

The event is free and open to the public.
