Chase Lewandowski spent his summer addressing one of Nebraska's water problems through the Nebraska Water Center's 2025 Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Lewandowski is a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln double majoring in plant biology and microbiology. He worked alongside Dr. Karrie Weber, a professor in the university's School of Biological Sciences and Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, to research how groundwater microbes impact surface soils. As he continues his research, Lewandowski will discover the unknown microbes in Nebraska's soil and groundwater and how they interact with the water farmers use for irrigation.
