The University of Nebraska Board of Regents presented Marlene Busse, administrative support associate for Student Services in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, with a Kudos Award June 1.
Annually, the Board of Regents recognizes full-time employees from each of the four campuses for their outstanding service to the university. The recipient receives a monetary stipend and recognition at a Board of Regents meeting.
Busse’s primary responsibility is serving graduate and undergraduate students in agronomy and horticulture. She monitors the progress of applications, and serves as a link between the applicant, the graduate college and the department faculty advisers to ensure timely and accurate communication.
Her nominator, professor Dennis McCallister, noted that Busse is often the first person a graduate student approaches with a question about procedures. He said her information is accurate without fail, because she never goes beyond what she knows to be factual and when in doubt, will check further to ensure accuracy.
“It is a rare day when I do not walk by her office and see her helping a graduate student (or faculty member) to resolve some question,” McCallister said. “She makes things happen, without ever losing sight of the people with whom she is working. She enriches everyone with whom she works.”
Busse has worked for the university and the department for 21 years and plans to retire this June.
