Attention Students: The Construction Division is holding its annual best student paper competition. Entries are open to undergraduate students and graduate students. Papers should demonstrate or describe the application of construction engineering and management techniques. Competition papers are welcome in the following areas:
Construction Management, Construction Methods, Construction Operations, Construction Equipment, Construction Cost Estimating, Construction Scheduling, Construction Safety, Construction Site Development, Construction Ergonomics, Construction Finance, Construction Contracts, Construction Labor, Construction Materials, Building Information Modeling, Built Environment, Earthwork Construction & Layout, Building Mechanical, Electrical, & Structural Systems, Building Systems Integration, Temporary Structures, Forensic Engineering, Front End Planning, Project Management, Project Delivery Methods, Project Simulation, Project Optimization, Project Control, Project Life Cycle, Project Variance, Process Modeling, Risk Management, Sustainable Construction, Resilient Construction, Lean Construction, SMART Construction, Infrastructure Asset Management, Utility & Energy Construction among others.
The competition winner will receive a $500 award to attend the 2021 IISE Annual Conference & Expo and Construction Division Town Hall.
Eligibility:
- Open only to students attending universities.
- All competition papers must follow the Full Paper Formatting Guidelines for 2021 IISE Annual Conference & Expo.
- Competition papers may only have one or two student authors.
- Competition papers co-authored with professors are ineligible for the competition.
Please note; your professor’s assistance is welcome.
- Competition winner must be a member of IISE and the Construction Division or must agree to become a member prior to accepting the award.
- Competition winner must agree to attend the Virtual 2021 IISE Annual Conference 22-25 May 2021 to present the winning paper at the Construction Division Town Hall.
- Competition winner will receive the Best Student Paper Award for the Construction Track at the 2021 IISE Annual Conference & Expo.
Important dates and information:
- Competition paper submission is due by March 31, 2021.

- Competition winner will receive notification by April 15, 2021.
