The position is supported by a newly funded NSF grant on the fate and conversion mechanism of microplastics during hydrothermal valorization of wet organic waste. The student is expected to perform wet lab experiments on hydrothermal processing, microplastic characterization, and integrate experimental findings with sustainability analyses. The student will be supervised and mentored by Dr. Yalin Li (https://yalinli.group) and Dr. Nicole Fahrenfeld (https://sites.google.com/site/nicolefahrenfeld) in collaboration with Dr. Georgia Arbuckle-Keil.

The position will cover tuition with a competitive stipend and benefits including health insurance. The students will work in a supportive research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and will be engaged in multidisciplinary collaboration for convergence research.

We welcome applications from candidates with an MS or undergraduate degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or other related fields. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. The following experience is preferred but not required: hydrothermal technologies, environmental organic chemistry, techno-economic analysis/life cycle assessment, programming (Python in particular).
