Undergraduate students are invited to join a research project using drones, 3D point clouds, and artificial intelligence to improve inspection and condition assessment of railroad tracks and ties. The work integrates uncrewed aerial systems imagery with machine learning to help automate defect detection and modernize railroad infrastructure monitoring.

Students may assist with data annotation and labeling, drone-based data collection as opportunities arise, and support for AI model development and evaluation. No prior experience with drones or artificial intelligence is required, and training will be provided.
