Drupal 7 Shutdown Date Set; 163 Days to Go

In a WDN Shared Governance board meeting on June 6, members discussed the schedule of the shutdown process for the Drupal 7-based UNLcms, considering the university's holiday closedown period. After some discussion, a shutdown date of December 19 at 10 a.m. was proposed and accepted by a unanimous vote.

UNL's shutdown date is part of our response to the Drupal Project's planned end-of-life for Drupal 7 on Jan. 5, 2025. After that date, the software will no longer be maintained for security or functionality and therefore will not comply with the university's standards for IT systems.

UNL's Next-Gen CMS is based on current Drupal software, and offers considerable advantages over the old D7 software. If you own a Drupal 7 site and have not yet gotten started with moving it, now's the time. Attend an onboarding session ASAP; there are 163 days until Dec. 19.
