Dave Van Horn, CEHS director of field services, is retiring after seven years with the college. Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend his retirement reception from 2:30-4:30 p.m., May 16 in Room 104 of the Home Economics Building on East Campus. “Dave was our inaugural full-time field placement officer and leaves big shoes to fill,” said Marjorie Kostelnik, CEHS dean. “He nurtured our relationships with schools all over Nebraska and helped our students find great places to practice what they learned and to develop into outstanding teachers.”
Van Horn served as an educator in Lincoln Public Schools for 33 years. He was a teacher at Goodrich Junior High School in Lincoln for three years, an assistant principal at Lefler Junior High for two years, principal at Everett Junior High for 10 years, and principal at Irving Middle School for 18 years. In between his service at LPS and CEHS, he was a senior analyst at Talent+ for two years.
From 1970-1976, Van Horn was a staff sergeant and instructor in the Nebraska National Guard, 867th Engineer Company. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in secondary education, and a certificate of specialization in educational administration and supervision all from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
For many years Van Horn volunteered as a YMCA youth sports coach, as a scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America and on the board of the Lancaster County Chapter of American Red Cross. He was also active in numerous professional organizations including as president of the Nebraska Chapter of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
