ORED 2014 Interdisciplinary Faculty Retreat

Research Collaborations Begin with Conversations
May 15-16 I Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center

Dear Colleagues,

Remember to register for the Interdisciplinary Faculty Retreat, May 15 and 16 at the new Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center, where you can meet your faculty colleagues from many disciplines and learn about the great research going on at UNL. The retreat provides you the opportunity to:
Connect with researchers from diverse disciplines
Learn about future directions in research
Contribute your ideas to help build new collaborative research initiatives

For more information on the retreat, including the list of speakers and a detailed schedule, go to the website at: http://research.unl.edu/facultyretreat14.

Whatever your field, I urge you to attend. The sessions on three thematic areas are structured to be inclusive and encourage participation across disciplines, so we would like to have a good mix of research interests. There also will be time to learn about interdisciplinary programs at UNL and, of course, relax and socialize – and have the kind of conversations that lead to big research ideas and collaborations.

As a special incentive to build collaborative teams and pursue those big ideas, up to $500,000 in seed grants will be awarded to interdisciplinary faculty teams emerging from the Retreat who propose innovative research projects that can lead to significant funding and help us meet our REDGI goals. More information about the seed grants will be announced during the retreat. We’ll also have great prizes – including travel stipends to visit federal agencies and technology to enhance your research – to encourage faculty networking at the retreat.

The retreat also gives us a chance to thank you for your hard work on behalf of UNL’s growing research enterprise. See you at the retreat!

Warm regards,

Prem S. Paul
Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development
