The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's "Big Idea" seminar series will continue next week at the East Campus Union with "Tourism, Scenery and Open Landscapes" by Steve Burr on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.

Burr, an associate professor of recreation resources management at Utah State University, will talk about the importance of scenery and visual quality as a part of the recreational experience. The director of the Institute for Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, Burr will use examples from the ecotourism associated with crane migration and his experiences in Utah.
The seminar is free and open to the public with a brief reception beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Big Idea Seminar Series is sponsored by the Agricultural Research Division and aims to build big ideas and multidisciplinary collaborations at UNL. The theme of this inaugural series is "Scenery as a Natural Resource," and hopes to help raise awareness of the visual landscape for the academic research community and act as a resource affecting the quality of life for all Nebraskans.

Two more talks are planned in November before the second Big Ideas series begins in January 2013. The planned theme for the second series is "Plant Recognition and Identification Technology."
