The School of Music will open its "Double Reed Days" clinic with a free concert, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 11 in Westbrook Recital Hall, room 119. The concert is open to the public.
The performance will feature guest clinicians Charles "Chip" Hamann and Jeffrey Lyman alongside faculty artists William McMullen and Jeffrey McCray.
Hamann is one of Canada's foremost oboists. A Lincoln native, Hamann was appointed acting principal oboe of the Ottawa-based National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada in 1993 at age 22. He is a member of the faculty of music at the University of Ottawa.
Lyman is one of the United States' premier performers, teachers and historians of the bassoon. Since 2006, he has been associate professor of bassoon at the University of Michigan. He has also taught at Arizona State and Bowling Green universities. Lyman has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Savannah Symphony, the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and the Michigan Opera Theatre.
Double Reed Days is an annual clinic offered by UNL's School of Music. This year's clinic offers oboe and bassoon master classes to UNL graduate and undergraduate students as well as high school students; a mini recital featuring UNL oboe and bassoon students; and an open play session for all participants.
