The Nebraska Repertory Theatre continues its season with "The 39 Steps" in rotating repertory with "Church Basement Ladies" and "Becky's New Car" and two one-night-only performances as part of its Destinations series from July 7 to Aug. 7.
Individual tickets for performances are $20, $18 faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $10 students with ID. Season Passes are $50, $45 faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $30 students and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members. "The 39 Steps:" From the novel by John Buchan, from the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, adapted by Patrick Barlow. This is an absurdly enjoyable, gleefully theatrical riff on Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film. The hero, Richard Hannay, goes to the theater for "something mindless and trivial," only to be entangled in the murder of a beautiful woman and a Nazi plot to bring the British Isles into Hitler's hands. This launches him on a wild chase around the country to fight all the bad guys and charm all the beauties. The 39 Steps is performed by a cast of four that seems like a cast of thousands. Dan Rodden (Chicago, AEA) plays Hannay with Melissa Lewis playing all of the female roles and Matt Penn (Chicago, AEA) and Robie Hayek playing the clowns, all of the other male roles. The production is directed by Rob Urbinati (New York City). A reception follows the opening-night performance on July 20.
Performances are July 20, 21, 23, 30 and Aug. 3 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and July 31 at 2 p.m. in the Howell Theatre. "Becky's New Car," "Church Basement Ladies" and "Destinations" continue their alternating performances through Aug. 7. Check the Nebraska Rep calendar for dates: http://www.unl.edu/rep
