TRAILSIDE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, FRI 11AM
Trailside Museum Plans Grand Opening For Mammoth Exhibit

The Trailside Museum of Natural History at Fort Robinson State Park near Crawford will celebrate the grand opening of its new exhibit "Clash of the Mammoths" beginning at 11 am MDT Aug. 4. The grand opening celebration will include a ribbon cutting and remarks by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Priscilla Grew, director of the University of Nebraska State Museum, and Mark Harris, assistant director of the museum. There will be no admission charged at the museum from 10:30 am to noon on Aug. 4 for the celebration.

The exhibit features the fossils of two mammoths whose tusks locked together during an Ice Age battle for dominance. They fell to earth while still locked together, were unable to separate and died where they fell.

In April, the fossils made their long-awaited return to their Ice Age stomping ground for the first time since the skeletal remains were discovered in the Little Badlands near Crawford in 1962. Visitors to Trailside have been able to view the exhibit as a work in progress since April as paleontologists from the NU State Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln installed the fragile mammoth fossils into the exhibit, a setting that replicates an actual dig site, simulating the excavation experience for museum visitors. more...

MARY RIEPMA ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER
The War Tapes, Mouth To Mouth Show at the Ross

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The War Tapes, and Mouth To Mouth. The War Tapes, will be showing through August 17, while Mouth To Mouth will be play through August 10.

Straight from the front lines in Iraq, The War Tapes is the first war movie filmed by soldiers themselves. Funnier, spicier, and more gut wrenching than news reports, this is Operation Iraqi Freedom as filmed by Sergeant Steve Pink, Sergeant Zack Bazzi and Specialist Mike Moriarty. Steve is a wisecracking carpenter who aspires to be a writer. Zack is a Lebanese-American university student who loves to travel and is fluent in Arabic. Mike is a father who seeks honor and redemption. Each leaves a woman behind - a girlfriend, a mother and a wife. Through their candid footage, these men open their hearts and take us on an unforgettable journey, capturing camaraderie and humor along with the brutal and terrifying experiences they face. These soldiers got the story that 2,700 embedded reporters never could.

In Mouth To Mouth, Sherry, a young runaway meets the radical street collective SPARK - Street People Armed with Radical Knowledge - while she is living on the streets of Europe. She travels through the continent in the SPARK van, recruiting members from street gangs and disenfranchised youth at raves and town squares and experiencing the group's giddy thrills as well as its punishing manipulations. Searching for a place to belong where she can still be herself, Sherry thinks she has found this in SPARK, but when her mother comes to find her, Sherry discovers that she must pay a heavy personal price for rebellion. Alison Murray combines drama, suspense and choreographed movement in an intense, stylish and provocative look at youth culture, the struggles of parenthood, and the dark side of nonconformity.
