Perlman announces Chang-Barnes as interim director at Lied Center
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman today announced the appointment of Ann Chang-Barnes as interim director of the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Chang-Barnes, artist-in-residence as a pianist in the UNL School of Music, was a long-time member of the Lied Center' advisory board until 2007.
An artist-in-residence as a pianist in the School of Music, Chang-Barnes coordinates the chamber music program, in partnership with the Chiara String Quartet. She has a doctorate of music in piano performance from Indiana University-Bloomington and was recently named a Fulbright Scholar. more...

Nancy Crow Exhibition Continues at International Quilt Study Center & Museum
Nancy Crow's "Cloth, Culture, Context" exhibition continues at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum through August 31. The show is a contemporary complement to "Quilts in Common," tracing quilting luminary Crow's evolution as studio quilter. The quilts of this exhibit represent the extensive scope of Nancy Crow's role as a member of the American studio quilt vanguard.
Admission to the International Quilt Study Center & Museum is free for UNL Students, Faculty & Staff. $5 for adults and $3 for children (under the age of 4 are free). Museum hours on Friday and Saturday are 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Sunday hours are 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Body of War and Caramel Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Body of War and Caramel. Both films will show through May 22.
Body of War is an intimate and transformational feature documentary about the true face of war today. Meet Tomas Young, 25 years old, paralyzed from a bullet to his spine - wounded after serving in Iraq for less than a week. Body of War is his coming home story as he evolves into a new person, dealing with his disability and finding his own unique and passionate voice against the war. The film is produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro; Karen Bernstein is co-producer; and Bernadine Colish serves as editor. The film features two original songs by Eddie Vedder. Body of War is a nakedly honest portrayal of what it's like inside the body, heart and soul of this extraordinary and heroic young man.
In Caramel, five women meet regularly in a beauty salon in Beirut, a colorful and sensual microcosm of the city where several generations come into contact, talk and confide in each other. Layale loves Rabih, but Rabih is married. Nisrine is Muslim and her forthcoming marriage poses a problem; she is no longer a virgin. Rima is tormented by her attraction to women and especially to a lovely client with long hair. Jamale is refusing to grow old. Rose has sacrificed her life to take care of her elderly sister. In the salon, their intimate and liberated conversations revolve around men, sex and motherhood, between haircuts and sugar waxing with caramel.
