UNL Hosts Summer Leadership Program
UNL's Leadership Summer Program kicks off Monday and runs this week. The event, part of the Global Leadership Institute, stimulates leadership development of students from historically black colleges and universities.
GLI's Summer Institute (GLSI) is designed to stimulate the leadership development of African American student leaders. GLSI begins with the understanding that leadership development fundamentally involves the exploration of leadership capacities that can be developed and managed in ways that enhance the performance of individuals, groups, and organizations.

Seefeldt Maps Jefferson's Vision of the West
When Thomas Jefferson daydreamed about the American West, what did he imagine? With the information that was available to him at the time, how could Jefferson - who never traveled farther west than Virginia - conceive of this vast region?
Doug Seefeldt, assistant professor of history, has an answer. By collecting and cataloging maps, correspondence, treaties, journal entries, books and statutes, he has created "Envisaging the West: Thomas Jefferson and the Roots of Lewis and Clark," Jefferson's West is an interactive, thematic digital history project that explores the third U.S. president's relationship with the expanding borders of his country. more...

Body of War and Caramel Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Body of War and Caramel. Both films will show through May 22.
Body of War is an intimate and transformational feature documentary about the true face of war today. Meet Tomas Young, 25 years old, paralyzed from a bullet to his spine - wounded after serving in Iraq for less than a week. Body of War is his coming home story as he evolves into a new person, dealing with his disability and finding his own unique and passionate voice against the war. The film is produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro; Karen Bernstein is co-producer; and Bernadine Colish serves as editor. The film features two original songs by Eddie Vedder. Body of War is a nakedly honest portrayal of what it's like inside the body, heart and soul of this extraordinary and heroic young man.
In Caramel, five women meet regularly in a beauty salon in Beirut, a colorful and sensual microcosm of the city where several generations come into contact, talk and confide in each other. Layale loves Rabih, but Rabih is married. Nisrine is Muslim and her forthcoming marriage poses a problem; she is no longer a virgin. Rima is tormented by her attraction to women and especially to a lovely client with long hair. Jamale is refusing to grow old. Rose has sacrificed her life to take care of her elderly sister. In the salon, their intimate and liberated conversations revolve around men, sex and motherhood, between haircuts and sugar waxing with caramel.
