Hillestad Gallery Hosts Beaded Prayers Exhibition
Unique artworks created by more than 4,000 individuals and collected by Virginia-based artist Sonya Clark will be featured in a new exhibition titled "Beaded Prayers" at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The exhibition runs through Oct. 10 in the Hillestad Textiles Gallery, in the Home Economics building on UNL's East Campus, just north of 35th and Holdrege Streets.
For nearly a decade, Clark has worked with groups creating one-of-a-kind amulets, which are included in "Beaded Prayers." On her Web site (www.beadedprayersproject.com) she describes how she developed the idea of sealing peoples' writings inside beaded packets. more...

Full Slate of Homecoming Activities Set For Week
Homecoming activities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are Sept. 28-Oct. 4. This year's theme is "Journey through the decades," with a focus on the 1950s to 1990s. A number of events are free and open to the public.

Sheldon Museum of Art Holds College Night
Sheldon Museum of Art on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus welcomes all students and faculty to College Nights this semester. Sheldon will be open at no charge on these evenings especially for individual students, student organizations, class groups and instructors.
Sheldon's permanent collection and special exhibitions will be available for guided tours or informal visits. Snacks and beverages will be offered. Tell No One and Man On Wire Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Tell No One and Man On Wire. Tell No One will show through October 9, while and Man On Wire will play for one week only, through October 2.
In the shortcut language of a movie pitch, Guillaume Canet's delicious contemporary thriller Tell No One is Vertigo meets The Fugitive by way of The Big Sleep. That is meant as high praise. This French adaptation of Harlan Coben's 2001 best seller is the kind of conspiracy-minded mystery almost no one seems capable of creating anymore, except David Lynch in his surreal way. Watching it is like gorging on a hot fudge sundae in the good old days when few worried about sugar and fat. There are no bogus geopolitics weighing it down with a spurious relevance.
