Lentz Center Exhibit Celebrates Alumna's Travels, Bhutan
The Lentz Center for Asian Culture's fall exhibition, "The Daily Arts of Bhutan" is a celebration of a gift of 50 items and 67 books to the Lentz Center. These gifts were given by University of Nebraska-Lincoln alumna Kay Kirby Dorji.
The gift to the center includes textiles, jewelry, ritual items and some everyday items as well. Textiles are the most important art form in Bhutan and are only produced by women. The weaving is done on backstrap looms and occasionally on looms with treadles or card looms. Bhutanese men and women are required to wear their woven national dress in public. more...

'Democracy and Religion' is Topic of E.N. Thompson Lecture
Internationally known law professor Ronald Dworkin will give the next E.N. Thompson Forum lecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. His speech, "Democracy and Religion: America and Israel," is the Kripke Lecture, presented in collaboration with UNL's Norman and Bernice Harris Center for Judaic Studies.
Dubbed "Mr. Justice" by the Times of London, Dworkin's pioneering scholarly work has had worldwide impact. He is known for his unique ability to tie together abstract philosophical ideas with concrete everyday concerns in law, morals and politics. He is a professor of philosophy and law at New York University and a professor of law at University College London. more...

Hollywood Chinese and film retrospective play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Hollywood Chinese and a film retrospective of filmmaker Arthur Dong. All films will show one week only through October 30.
Arthur Dong's Hollywood Chinese, opening at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 24, with filmmaker Arthur Dong in person, explores Chinese representation in Hollywood, weaving together personal stories from key players throughout the years, featuring Ang Lee, Nancy Kwan, Joan Chen, B.D. Wong and many more.
In addition to the screenings of Hollywood Chinese, the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will be presenting a selection of Dong’s earlier work and a retrospective, titled the "Hollywood Chinese Film Retrospective," including several of the films discussed in his documentary.
