UNL is officially closed during the annual holiday shutdown period. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 5, 2009. However, many university buildings across campus will have special hours over the holiday break. Raikes Gives Lecture During Dedication Weekend
Jeffrey S. Raikes, chief executive of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and namesake of the new Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, presented a lecture on Sept. 26 at the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.
Raikes' lecture is titled "Business and Leadership Lessons." The one-hour lecture is free and open to the public. The lecture is in conjunction with a host of related activities Sept. 26-27 celebrating the dedication of the new Raikes School, formerly the J.D. UNL Earns $8.1 Million NSF Grant for Nanotechnology Research Center
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln received an $8.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to support the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center and its nanotechnology research through 2014.
The celebration was Sept. 19 on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The new multicultural center is a stated priority of the chancellor as an important step in securing and expanding the progress we have made in our diversity efforts as a campus. more...


UNL Wins $8.7 Million Grant for Regional Child Welfare Assistance Center
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has received a five-year, $8.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau to establish the Midwest Child Welfare Technical Assistance Implementation Center.
The new center aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of child welfare services in Nebraska and nine other states. The center will partner with state agencies, tribes and other child service providers to help them identify obstacles to helping families, to build the capacity of state and tribal child welfare systems and to work toward significant changes to improve outcomes for children and families involved with these system. The ultimate goal is to ensure all children have safe, stable and permanent homes. more...
