Big Red Road Show
7th annual 'Big Red Road Show' Feb. 8 at Qwest Center Omaha

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present the seventh annual "Big Red Road Show" at Qwest Center Omaha from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8. The theme for the 2009 Road Show is "Huskerwood," which will spotlight 75 interactive exhibits with displays of star-studded alumni and A-list career possibilities. Admission is free.

The Big Red Road Show is designed to help high school seniors make their final decisions about college and high school juniors and sophomores to begin their college search. Students of all ages and adults can attend to experience a glimpse of college life at UNL. Representatives from all UNL undergraduate colleges, graduate studies, and student affairs offices such as Scholarships and Financial Aid, Career Services, and Admissions will be on hand. more...

Dinosaurs and Disasters
'Dinos and Disasters' Feb. 7 at University of Nebraska State Museum

The University of Nebraska State Museum and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Geosciences will host their annual family fun day, "Dinosaurs and Disasters" from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 7.

This year's theme is "Changes Over Time." Activities and games will interpret changes in climate, changes in animals and changes in plants in Earth's history. more...

Sustainable Partnerships Discussion Feb. 6 at UNL

People interested in sustainability are invited to participate in "Building Sustainable Partnerships" on Friday, Feb. 6, at Hardin Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus, to share information and questions about saving energy, reducing emissions, and practices that build sustainability.

Sponsored by the Mayor's Environmental Task Force and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Natural Resources, the workshop is free and open to the public, from 1 to 6 p.m. at 33rd and Holdrege streets. more...



National Acrobats of China
National Acrobats of China at Lied

Dazzling audiences for more than 50 years, the National Acrobats of China have proved their reputation for excellence as one of the most influential acrobatic troupes in the world. The show, featuring martial arts, traditional music, acrobatics and illusion, will come to the Lied Center for Performing Arts on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 7:30 p.m., with a student matinee performance at 12:00 p.m.

Tickets for this performance are $32 and $22; student matinee tickets are $4. University of Nebraska-Lincoln students with a valid I.D., as well as youth age 18 and younger, may purchase tickets for half price. Call the Lied Ticket Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for ticket availability. Regular ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may also be purchased online at the Lied Center website.

Behlen Observatory public night is Feb. 6

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Behlen Observatory near Mead will be open to the public 7:30-10 p.m. Feb. 6. Provided the sky is clear, visitors will be able to view a variety of objects with the observatory's 30-inch telescope and with smaller telescopes set up outside. These include the Moon, Venus, the Orion Nebula, star clusters, and double or multiple stars.

There will be an illustrated talk at 8 p.m. titled "Searching for Life in the Universe: Where is Everyone?" by Terry Oswald, a professor at Florida Institute of Technology. The search for life in other places in our solar system and in other solar systems is an active area of research among astronomers. Although life beyond the Earth has yet to be found, new research is pointing toward likely locations for the search. There is no admission charge for the public night. more...

Sheldon Presents 'Evolving Eden,' Showcase Exhibition in Lincoln PhotoFest

Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln presents "Evolving Eden: Three Photographic Perspectives," an exhibition of works by artists Arno Minkkinen, Hans Eijkelboom and Edward Burtynsky. Through diverse viewpoints, these contemporary photographers explore our environment and the human effects on its changes.

The exhibition opens Feb. 6 with a keynote address by Minkkinen at 5:30 p.m. in the Sheldon's Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium and will be on view through May 31. "Evolving Eden" is the showcase exhibition in Lincoln PhotoFest, a communitywide celebration of photography at 20 galleries and museums across the city. Exhibitions on view in PhotoFest range from contemporary, cutting-edge works by local and national photographers to historical retrospectives.
