Hikade Speaks on Hierakonpolis Excavations at AIA Lecture
The Lincoln-Omaha Society of the Archaeological Institute of America announces the fourth lecture on archaeology for the 2008-2009 season at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15 in Room 15 of Richards Hall. Professor Thomas Hikade, from the University of British Columbia, will be speaking on his recent excavations at the Egyptian site of Hierakonpolis.
The lecture will present an overview of previous excavation work at Hierakonpolis and the recent results of the UBC expedition from 2005-08. Hikade studied Egyptology, Near Eastern Archaeology, and Prehistory at the University of Trier, Germany and the Ruprecht-Karls University in Heidelberg, Germany. more...

The University Program Council at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present Somali rapper K'naan Feb. 13 in the Centennial Room of the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.

Darwin's 'Beagle apprenticeship' is Feb. 13 Lecture Topic
A talk on "Darwin's Prophetic Apprenticeship on the 'Beagle' Voyage" will be one of the highlights of a series of activities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recognizing the bicentennial anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth.
George Levine, professor emeritus of English at Rutgers University, will deliver the lecture beginning at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the auditorium of the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St., one day after Darwin's 200th birthday. Women's Gymnastics Offers "Power Of Pink" Promotion
The Nebraska Women's Gymnastics team will be hosting the "Power of Pink" meet at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 13 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center when the team hosts #1 ranked Utah. They hope to raise breast cancer awareness through events such as this, and recognize those who have been affected by this disease.
Additionally, as part of Pepsi Pack the House at Women's Gymnastics on Friday, admission will only be $1 and 22 oz. Pepsi products will only be $1. There will be several giveaways throughout the evening to support breast cancer awareness, including pink bracelets, pink rings, pink pom-poms and pink t-shirts! All Husker fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Tickets will be available at the Devaney Center when the doors open at 6 p.m. (one hour prior to the start of the meet).
