Lincoln, Neb., February 9th, 2009 —

The University Program Council at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present Somali rapper K'naan Feb. 13 in the Centennial Room of the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., an opening act will perform at 8 p.m. and K'naan will be on stage 9-11 p.m. The event is free for all UNL students with a valid N-Card and $3 for all others.

K'naan is an up-and-coming rap artist whose past gives this Somali entertainer his credibility. Hip-hop- and Bob Marley-inspired beats and rhythms establish this new artist. With traditional African music infused with socially conscious lyrics, K'naan has a style all his own. Collaborations with Mos Def, Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Damian Marley set up K'naan's upcoming second album, "Troubadour." K'naan has also recorded with Nelly Furtado on the song, "Going Away."

K'naan is the featured performer for UNL's Campus Night Life event. The other activities taking place that same night beginning at 7 p.m. throughout the Nebraska Union include access to the Rec Room, crafts, games, karaoke, "mocktails" and free T-shirts debuting the new Campus Night Life logo.

The mission of Campus Night Life is to provide a safe variety of on-campus activities that reach out to all UNL student communities and foster campuswide inclusiveness. Campus Night Life strives to provide consistent entertainment that recognizes and caters to the diverse UNL student population.

The University Program Council is a volunteer student organization designed to address the co-curricular, social, recreational, cultural and educational needs of the UNL campus.
