Homemade Astronaut
NET Presents Homemade Astronaut

NET presents "Homemade Astronaut: The Clay Anderson Story," airing June 11 at 8:30 p.m. CT on NET1 and in high-definition on NET-HD. The program is an intimate and personal look at Anderson's journey from dreamy-eyed child to driven college student to determined NASA astronaut.

During the hour-long NET Television production, Anderson talks about his youthful dreams and his Ashland (Neb.) and Hastings College teachers who inspired and encouraged him to pursue his passions. Viewers will learn how, after 15 applications, he was chosen as a NASA astronaut, his three-year training program, his launch aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis on his father's birthday and his return to earth five months later on his wedding anniversary. With humility and emotion, Anderson relates how Nebraskans and his hometown of Ashland have embraced him since his return from space. The Secret of the Grain, and One Day You'll Understand Play at the Ross

The Secret of the Grain is a touching and resoundingly humanistic story set in the rustic port of Sete in southeastern France. Slimane has worked in the same shipyard job for over 35 years, when his growing dissatisfaction prompts him to try to open his own restaurant. His dream seems unbelievable, but his contagious conviction and persistence work their way into the hearts of his loyal but dispersed family: the four children from his first marriage, his ex-wife, current girlfriend and her bright, outspoken daughter, Rym (played to great acclaim by the stunning newcomer Hafsia Herzi). A grand film about ordinary people, The Secret of the Grain is a deliciously slow-burning drama about fate, food and family.

One Day You'll Understand is set in Paris, 1987. As the trial of Lyon's Gestapo head Klaus Barbie plays out on television, French businessman Victor Bastien (Hippolyte Girardot) finds himself distracted from his work and increasingly obsessed with piecing together the truth about his family's history. As he sorts through photographs, letters and memorabilia, the documents he discovers - including an Aryan declaration written by his father – tell of the fate that befell his parents during the war, and he is quick to rush to judgment. But to his frustration, his mother Rivka (Jeanne Moreau) has shuttered away her past and refuses to share any memories with him. With tensions growing between Victor and his sister Tania (Dominique Blanc) – who defends their father's declaration and mother’s silence – his wife (Emmanuelle Devos) and children accompany him on a visit to the tiny village where Rivka’s parents were forced to hide during the war. And as Victor finally begins to reconcile himself with his family’s fate, Rivka makes the decision to confide her past to the members of her family who may have a chance at shaping the future.
