Campus Notice
A youth attending a conference on city campus was diagnosed June 24th with Influenza A. The state lab is testing to determine if it is H1N1 Flu, and results won't be known for at least 24 hours. The individual is isolated and receiving medical attention.
Please remember to practice proper cough etiquette and good hand washing. Because of the mild symptoms of H1N1, treatment is the same as seasonal flu. For more information about this and other health and safety issues please visit http://emergency.unl.edu/.
Askren selected as UNL's first Chief Information Officer
Chancellor Harvey Perlman has announced the selection, after a national search, of Mark S. Askren as the new Chief Information Officer for UNL.
Askren's charge will be to strategize, direct and coordinate technology projects, facilities and programs to meet the primary campus missions of instruction, research and outreach. more...

Jun Kaneko's 'Play's the Thing' Opening Reception June 26
The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host an opening public reception 5-7 p.m. June 26 for "Play's the Thing: The Paintings and Objects of Jun Kaneko."
An Omaha resident, Kaneko is internationally recognized for his large ceramic "dangos" (Japanese for "dumpling"). The exhibition explores the relationship between his monumental ceramic sculptures and his paintings, his first and lesser-known medium. In addition to sculptures and new, large-scale paintings, the artist's drawings for opera costume designs and other works on paper will be on view. more...

Award-Winning Japanese Quilts Exhibit Continues
Quilts from the most prestigious quilt competition in Japan will be on display at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through July 19. Seventeen winning entries from international contestants were chosen for "Quilt Japan: Selections from the Ninth Quilt Nihon Exhibition."
The Quilt Nihon Exhibition is the oldest and most prestigious quilt competition in Japan. For each of the nine competitions held so far, a diverse international panel of jurors has selected the winning entries based on consideration of the fresh interpretation of traditional designs or the artistic accomplishment of the studio quilt maker. The contest is organized by the Japan Handicraft Instructors' Association and was founded to propel the creativity and technical accomplishment of Japanese quilt makers. more...
