Man Who Unmasked Bernie Madoff to Speak Today

Harry Markopolos, the man who unmasked Bernie Madoff, will present the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration's annual Ethics Lecture today at the Lied Center for Performing Art, 301 N. 12th St. The speech begins at 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

In his lecture, "Blowing the Whistle on Bernie Madoff: Gift Wrapping and Delivering the Truth about the Largest Ponzi Scheme Ever," Markopolos will walk listeners through the why and how of the world's largest Ponzi scheme. more....

 

Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing September 18

The APC hearing on proposed budget reductions is 2:30 - 5 p.m. September 18 at the Nebraska Union (Regency Room). The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions. A schedule is available for download.

Nebraska Colloquium Lectures to Open Campus Dialogue on the 'Silk Road'

The Nebraska Colloquium at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is designed to engage the entire UNL community in thoughtful discussion of issues of overriding importance. Adapting the theme for the 2009-10 E.N. Thompson Forum on Global Issues, this year's Nebraska Colloquium will focus on "The Silk Road."

"Fueled by Silk: Crazy Quilt Mania," a lecture by Patricia Crews, Willa Cather professor and professor of textiles, and director of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum will take place in the auditorium of the Nebraska Union at 7 p.m. more...

Rain Stays Away For Another Big Gameday

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln welcomed another sellout crowd back to campus for the second football game of the 2009 season as the Huskers played Arkansas State University.

Touch a moon rock at NASA exhibit Sept. 15-16
Driven to Explore

Visitors will have the opportunity to touch a moon rock at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's "Driven to Explore" exhibit Sept. 15-16 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Hosted by the UNL College of Engineering, the traveling exhibit will be presented 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day in Memorial Plaza, 15th and S streets on the north side of the Nebraska Union.

The exhibit features a multimedia experience showcasing the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station and the Constellation Program, the next generation of launch vehicles and human spacecraft designed to explore the moon and beyond. It will describe why NASA is returning to the moon and what astronauts will do there. more....
