Microsoft Executive to Speak at UNL

An international Microsoft executive will present a public talk Monday (Sept. 14) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Srini Koppolu, corporate vice president and managing director of Microsoft India Development Center in Hyderabad will discuss "Microsoft in India – The R&D Journey" at 11 a.m. in the Kauffman Center Great Hall on City Campus. Attendees should enter through the south doors. The Kauffman Center is home to UNL's Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management. more....

 

Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing September 18

The APC hearing on proposed budget reductions is 2:30 - 5 p.m. September 18 at the Nebraska Union (Regency Room). The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions. A schedule is available for download.

Bereuter Will Give Thompson Forum Lecture

Former Nebraska Congressman Doug Bereuter will give the first lecture in the 2009-10 E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at 7 p.m. today at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 301 N. 12th St.

Bereuter's lecture, "China's Trade and Soft Power Relationships with Asia and the United States -- Reason to Worry?" will explore the United States' trade deficit with China, which is becoming more controversial as American manufacturing jobs are lost. Within that controversy lies the role of foreign investment in the production of Chinese exports. Couple that with China's increasing focus on enhancing its soft power -- often defined as the ability of a country to persuade others to do what it wants without force or coercion -- and concerns arise. Is increasing Chinese soft power a zero sum game for the United States? Is the Chinese model of economic growth and political stability increasingly attractive to the developing world? Bereuter will provide insights into these questions. more....

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln welcomed another sellout crowd back to campus for the second football game of the 2009 season as the Huskers played Arkansas State University.

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Adam and In The Loop. In The Loop will screen through September 17, while Adam will show through September 24.
