Former Australian High Court Justice to Speak at Law College Today

Michael Kirby, former justice of the High Court of Australia, will give a lecture today at noon in the courtroom of Ross McCollum Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law.
Kirby will discuss "Citation and Use of Foreign and International Authority in Constitutional Decision-making" in the college's Roman L. Hruska Institute for the Administration of Justice Lecture. Kirby retired from the High Court of Australia Feb. 2. He was appointed to the High Court in 1996 and served 13 years. Since his judicial retirement, he has been elected president of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia. He also serves as editor-in-chief of The Laws of Australia. more...
UNL Wins $3 Million Grant for National Security Education Consortium

The Director of the Intelligence Community Centers of Academic Excellence program in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Dr. Lenora Peters Gant, spoke at the Van Brunt Visitors Center yesterday to announce UNL's receipt of a $3 million grant to establish the Great Plains National Security Education Consortium. The consortium, sponsored by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, will provide rich academic, research, cultural immersion and outreach activities focused on national security-related topics to students with diverse interests and backgrounds.
The consortium is a partnership of UNL, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Creighton University and Bellevue University. An affiliated Intelligence Community Centers of Academic Excellence program, the University of Washington's Institute for National Security Education and Research, will provide evaluation and planning services. A central goal of the consortium is to develop students who have the knowledge of international and cultural issues, proficiency in foreign languages and skills in research, analysis and critical thinking required of professionals employed in the 16 federal agencies that make up the U.S. intelligence community. more...

OUS Hosts Sixth Annual Mid-Semester Check
The Office of Undergraduate Studies will hold its sixth annual Mid-Semester Check tonight in the Nebraska Union. There will be two sessions, with one running from 6 - 7:30 p.m. and another running from 7 - 8:30 p.m. First year and entering transfer students are welcome to attend.
The checkpoint provides students a guided opportunity for a timely review of academic responsibilities and college and major requirements once they are on campus. It is a key to retaining students from one year to the next because it encourages students to become more engaged and find resources to encourage their success in college. Schedules and further helpful resources are available on the Mid-Semester Check website.

Husker Homecoming Events for Students, Alumni, Fans Planned Sept. 21-26
Concerts, a parade, decorations, tailgating, a blood drive, pep rally, coronation -- all are part of the annual homecoming celebration week activities planned at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Sept. 21-26.
