UNL Hosts First Women in Physics Conference
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Physics and Astronomy will host its first Women in Physics Conference Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
The purpose of this event is to bring together outstanding undergraduate women researchers in physics. During the three-day conference, students will take part in a unique opportunity to expand upon their current research experiences, interact with physics students from other universities, and attend scientific talks given by invited physicists from other Midwestern universities. more...

University Chamber Singers to Perform in Series of Events at Sheldon
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music's Chamber Singers will present an expanded series of four concerts at Sheldon Museum of Art this academic year.
On Sunday, November 1 at 2 p.m., the group will give a Sheldon Sunday performance. The Chamber Singers ensemble is composed of 24 to 28 voices selected by audition by music majors and non-music majors from throughout the university. The choir explores a broad range of repertoire specializing in literature for unaccompanied vocal performances and chamber ensembles, including works from early music eras, traditional choral chamber music as well as contemporary and new music composed for smaller vocal groups. more...

QUILT STUDY CENTER, OPENING FRIDAY
Quilts in 4-Part Harmony Exhibit Opens Friday
The exhibition, "Four-Part Harmony: The Linda Carlson Four-Block Quilt Collection," will open Oct. 30 at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
More than two dozen quilts will be shown in two rotations. Rotation 1 runs Oct. 30 through Jan. 10. The second rotation opens Jan. 13 and runs through March 28. Collector and author Linda Carlson and Carolyn Ducey, curator of collections at the museum, chose the quilts on display from a collection donated to the center in 2004 by Carlson and her husband, Dr. John V. Carlson. more...

'Dia de los Muertos' Tradition Celebrated at Sheldon
Events at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art this month will celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a centuries-old spiritual tradition expressing the continuity of life by honoring the dead on their return to Earth for one day each year.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, there will be a free family day. Events include a morning performance by Lincoln High School theater students and Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland, and afternoon art-making and music by The Lincoln Harp Duo and Mariachi Luna y Sol. Mexican breads, chocolate and other traditional foods will be available for visitors. more...
