Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize Winner to Speak
The story of one of the most powerful native empires in North American History will be the topic of the next Paul A. Olson seminar in Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Pekka Hamalainen, associate professor of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will deliver "Imperial Layers: How an Indigenous Empire Changed the Course of American History," at 3:30 p.m. today in the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St. Hamalainen's talk and a 3 p.m. reception in the museum are free and open to the public. more...

Enrollment Now Open for Chinese Courses With UNL's Confucius Institute
Enrollment is now open for non-credit conversational Chinese courses from the Confucius Institute. Courses offered include Chinese Language, Culture and Music. Classes start January 19th. Sign up on the Undergraduate Online and Distance Education website.

Put Yourself on the Map: Avery Schwer and the ZNET Energy House
Avery Schwer has led the construction of a 2,000-square-foot house in Omaha that is designed to provide more energy than it uses. Called the ZNETH project, the zero-net energy test home is a collaborative research effort between Engineering, the Peter Kiewit Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council (Flatwater Chapter), and the Green Omaha Coalition.
