E-Week Open House Features Technology and Tradition
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering will celebrate a century of solutions at its E-Week Open House 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 23 in Othmer Hall. The guest speaker is Brian Halla, executive chairman of National Semiconductor and an alumnus of UNL's electrical engineering program. Halla will speak at 10:30 a.m. in 106 Othmer Hall.
This year's innovative senior project displays look to the future of electronics engineering with an I-phone "app" for controlling a robot, and tweak the past with a "stereolith" audio system using vacuum tubes for superior sound quality. Class assignments in civil engineering offer perspectives on preparing for Lincoln's West Haymarket redevelopment, and chemical engineering student teams will display refined water filters for use in undeveloped nations. more...

Theatrix Closes Season With 3rd Annual New Artists Festival
Theatrix, the student run theatre organization at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, closes its 2009 - 2010 season with the 3rd Annual New Artists Festival. The event features a series of new works by student playwrights ranging from 10-minute shorts to full one act plays. The seven new plays will be divided into two separate groups and will be presented in repertory over four nights.
The New Arts Festival will run April 23- 25. Group A ("Tempest Trio," "Variations on a Police Line-up," "Los Pobrecitos," and "Love Vs.") will run April 23 at 7:30 p.m. and April 24 at 10:30 p.m. Group B ("L'Asile," "Writer's Block," and "Fairytale") will run April 23 at 10:30 p.m., April 24 at 7:30 p.m., and April 25 at 2:00 p.m. Individual show tickets are $6 via credit card (some user fees may be applied) at the UNL Theatre ticket website or at the theatre the evening of the performance (subject to availability).

UNL's Behlen Observatory Holds Final Spring Public Night
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Behlen Observatory near Mead will be open for public viewing 7:30-10 p.m. April 23 in the last public night of the spring.
If the sky is clear, visitors will be able to view a variety of objects through telescopes, including the Moon, the planets Mars, Saturn and Venus (until about 8:30 p.m.), a globular star cluster and a double star. In addition to the observatory's 30-inch telescope, members of the Omaha Astronomical Society will set up telescopes outside the observatory. more...

Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing is April 23
An agenda has been released for the APC hearing on proposed budget reductions, to be held April 23 at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Room of the Nebraska Union. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions.

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Prodigal Sons and Neil Young Trunk Show. Prodigal Sons will show through April 29, while Neil Young Trunk Show will screen through May 6.

UNL Campus NightLife to Host 'End of Year Bash'
The Campus NightLife program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host an "End of the Year Bash" for all UNL students from 6 - 11 p.m. April 25 at the Nebraska Union Plaza, 15th and S streets. The "End of the Year Bash" is only open to current UNL students; attendees will need to show their N-Card identification to enter the party.
Highlights of the party will be a dunk tank, an airbrush tattoo artist, a photo booth, caricaturist and a student band. There will also be free food and free beverages from Pepsi. Campus NightLife will also offer prizes and give-away items for a few special contests. more...

Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design Hosts Student Biennial Fashion Show
Undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design will showcase their original apparel designs with models on the runway, commentary, and live DJ music on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Ballroom in the Nebraska Union on city campus. Among the features of the show will be original crafted fabric, experimental garment shapes, hand woven and quilted textile treatments, and interpretations of current and future trends .
Twenty-seven students will present over 100 designs that acknowledge new directions in fashion and exemplify the many ways that dress can communicate. Tickets are $5.00 and will be available at the door.

State Museum Celebrates Space and Science on Astronomy Day
Astronomy Day will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 24 at the University of Nebraska State Museum. Prizes and a variety of hands-on activities about space, science and astronomy will be featured at this fun-filled event for all ages.
Activities and demonstrations will be on robotics, rocketry, planets, space travel, microgravity, physics, telescopes, meteorites, optics, the Moon and more. Other attractions include launching of rockets and presentations of the fulldome show "Earth, Moon and Sun." Outdoor activities will be conducted, weather permitting. more...
