Psychology Receives University-Wide Departmental Teaching Award

The Department of Psychology has been setting the standard among its peers for 120 years. It offered what was most likely the earliest formal instruction in psychology west of the Mississippi River. It established the first psychological laboratory dedicated to training undergraduates.

Its highly regarded annual Symposium on Motivation was the first and is the longest running conference on psychology in the world. And its Law-Psychology program, established in 1974, was the first dual-degree program of its kind. Faculty, graduate students and staff have received more than 60 teaching awards and recognitions since 2000, creating an esprit de corps that touches every member of the department.

APC Hearing Set For June 25

The APC has announced a tentative schedule for Budget Hearings on proposed budget reductions, with a hearing scheduled for June 25 for some of the proposed budget cuts. Another will be planned later, during fall 2010. The June 25 session will focus primarily on the proposed administrative reductions while the fall hearing will focus on those reductions mainly affecting academics. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions. Specific recommendations may be found on 2010 Budget Reduction website.
