UCARE Project Leads to Naming of New Dinosaur Species

A team of paleontologists, including lead author and 2008 University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate Andrew McDonald, has named a new species of dinosaur based on an incomplete skeleton found in western New Mexico on land administered by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

The new species, dubbed Jeyawati rugoculus, comes from rocks that preserve a swampy forest ecosystem that thrived near the shore of a vast inland sea 91 million years ago. Jeyawati is a member of a remarkable assemblage of dinosaurs and other animals that was totally unknown 15 years ago and that was featured in the 2001 Discovery Channel documentary, "When Dinosaurs Roamed America." more...

Darryl White Group Kicks Off Jazz in June Next Tuesday

Now in its 19th season, the Jazz in June concert series presents five Tuesday evenings of great jazz in the great outdoors on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. Organized by the Sheldon Art Association and the Berman Music Foundation, this year's free jazz series presented by Baylor Evnen kicks off Tuesday, June 1 with the Darryl White Group with guest artist Dick Oatts.

The concerts begin at 7 p.m. and draw thousands under the trees on the plaza west of Sheldon Museum of Art. more...

UNL Advertising Students Win NSAC District Competition 2nd Year in Row

Advertising students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications took home first place in the District 9 American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition April 30 in St. Louis. This is the second year that UNL will compete for the national title in the nation's leading student advertising competition.

Nebraska will represent District 9 at the national finals in Orlando, Fla., June 10-12, during the annual American Advertising Federation conference. Nationwide more than 150 colleges and universities took on the NSAC challenge in district competitions at 15 locations over the past three weeks. The ninth district represents advertising clubs and American Advertising Federations in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. more...
