Chemistry Professor Honored For Work on Electrochemical Biosensors
Finding a simpler, cheaper and quicker way to detect HIV would be an invaluable and long-sought aid in fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic worldwide. Rebecca Lai hopes her research into electrochemical biosensors will provide such a tool.
Lai, an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earned a five-year, $455,000 Faculty Early Career Development Program Award from the National Science Foundation to continue her research. The CAREER award is NSF's most prestigious award for outstanding pre-tenure faculty to help them develop as teacher-scholars and researchers. more...

Husker Olympian | Griggs Gears Up For First USA National Games
Daniel Griggs has earned opportunity and reward in the Special Olympics. He is a decorated, three-time member of Team USA. He has won medals in the Special Olympics World Games in New Haven, Conn.; Raleigh, N.C.; and during a dream trip to Shanghai, China. But it's the next competition that has the 15-year UNL Dining Services employee bursting with pride.
This time he gets to suit up for Team Nebraska, competing on his home turf against powerlifters from across the nation during the Special Olympics’ 2010 USA National Games, July 17-24.
"I'm ready for the national games. I can't wait to show everyone what Nebraska is all about," Griggs said. "Win or lose, we are going to have fun, shake hands and show good sportsmanship and respect. That is Nebraska." more...

The 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games officially began Sunday night with an exciting ceremony that featured a parade of athletes, musical entertainment from the likes of Grammy-winning singer Sandi Patty, singer/songwriter Rachel McClusky and headline performer Jars of Clay, as well as speakers like Tim Shriver.

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Please Give and Sweetgrass. Both films will screen through July 22.
