'Sunday Scientist' To Explore The Elusive Otter
The University of Nebraska State Museum will present a program for children and families that explores what wildlife researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Natural Resources and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission are uncovering about Nebraska's river otters based on samples of their poop, otherwise known as scat, dung or feces.
This program is part of the museum's Sunday with a Scientist series and will be 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. July 18 at Morrill Hall. Morrill Hall is south of 14th and Vine Streets on the UNL City Campus. Museum Sunday hours are 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. The University of Nebraska State Museum will offer half-price admission to Morrill Hall July 17-25 for all 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games credentialed athletes, coaches, family members, volunteers and special guests. Special Olympics National Games open at UNL July 18
Husker Nation is putting out the welcome mat for more than 30,000 athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers and fans and nearly as many more spectators for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games, set to kick off on campus July 18 with a grand opening ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The event -- the largest single special event ever situated at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln -- ends nearly two years of planning and coordination between the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games and the city of Lincoln, Chamber of Commerce, the university and other officials, representatives, volunteers, coaches, parents and athletes, and puts Nebraska in the forefront of a high-profile international event. more...
Journalism to Lead Media Coverage of Games
A multimedia website, a nightly television broadcast and two new courses have been created by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications to enable students to cover and promote the Special Olympics 2010 USA National Games. Fifty-two students in two journalism classes will join forces with the games' media professionals to produce a website that will tell the stories of athletes and competitions in text, photos and videos.
About 3,000 participants will compete in 13 different sports across the city of Lincoln. The games, which will be the largest multi-sport event in the state’s history, is expected to attract 15,000 family members and friends, 1,000 coaches, 8,000 volunteers and 30,000 fans. more...

NET to Broadcast July 18 National Games Opening Ceremonies Live
NET Television will broadcast the opening ceremony for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games on NET2 beginning at 3 p.m. July 18.
NET is also providing connectivity and distribution for the opening ceremony, which will enable live Internet streaming of the event online at their website and to the Special Olympics National Games website.
