"Frame By Frame" Discusses 3D Film

"Frame By Frame" is a new series of academic film reviews and and discussion by Professor Wheeler Winston Dixon, Ryan Professor of Film Studies, Professor of English at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In this episode, Winston Dixon discusses the history of 3D cinema and what the future holds for 3D films.

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Blood Into Wine and Cyrus. Both films will show through Aug. 12.

Soy Cuba (I Am Cuba)
Sheldon's Havana Summer Cuban Film Series Continues

The Sheldon Museum of Art welcomes the public to join them for a four-part Cuban Film Series, part of the museum's Havana Summer event schedule. The screenings are free and open to the public and take place in Sheldon's Abbott Auditorium.

The series continues on August 10 at 7 p.m. with "Soy Cuba" a 1964 film directed by Mikhail Kalatozov. The movie features four vignettes in Batista's Cuba that dramatize the need for revolution won critical acclaim at both the Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals when Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese presented it in 2005. more...

NU State Museum's Wildlife and Nature Photo Contest Continues

The University of Nebraska State Museum will conduct its second annual "Wildlife and Nature Photo Contest" through Sept. 1. Amateur photographers who are Nebraska residents age 18 or older are invited to submit their striking photos of wildlife and natural settings taken anywhere in the world. All entries will be showcased in the museum Oct. 1 through Dec. 1 as part of a special exhibit.

Images may show animal behavior, plant life, natural landscapes, portraits of wildlife in a natural habitat and people interacting with nature. Images of pets, domestic animals, or captive animals photographed in zoos or game farms will not qualify for entry. All entries must be original photographs taken by the contestant. more...

NEBRASKA STATE MUSEUM
