Cornhusker Marching Band's Annual Exhibition Concert is Aug. 20
The Cornhusker Marching Band will kick off its 2010 season with its annual exhibition concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 in Memorial Stadium.
The event is free and open to the public and visitors are encouraged to enter stadium by either the northwest or southwest entrances.
'Outside Art Inside Collections' Continues at Sheldon
"Parallel Starts: Outsider Art Inside Collections," at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art, looks at the challenge of defining outsider art and how its inclusion in museum collections blurs traditional art historical definitions.
The exhibition is drawn from the Sheldon 's permanent collection, loans and a selection of works by Jeffrey Randall, a Lincoln artist. Curated by Norman Geske, Sheldon director emeritus, the exhibition features works from Jean Dubuffet, Howard Finster, Albert York, John Kane, David Burlyuk and Samuel Colwell Banker, among others. more...

Big Red Welcome Activities Planned For UNL students Aug. 20-22
When thousands of new and returning Huskers converge on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln later this week, the highlight of their arrival Aug. 20-22 will be the annual Big Red Welcome presented by University Bookstore: a convocation, celebration and festival spanning the weekend.
As many as 15,000 students or more participate in the weekend events. An event rundown, including times and locations is available on the Big Red Welcome website. Attendees must have an NCard for admission to these events.
UNL Research Climbs To Record Of More Than $139M
Research funding at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln increased nearly 14 percent this year to a record of more than $139 million, according to the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development. Total research funding, which includes all external funds awarded for university research, was $139.2 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30. That's up from $122.5 million the previous year.
More than $94 million of this year's research funding came from federal sources such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Department of Education, National Endowment for the Humanities, Department of Agriculture and others. UNL's federal funding for research grew more than 12 percent from $83.8 million in 2009. more...
'Back to Campus' Equals 'Back to Traffic' During Move-In
Fall-semester classes begin at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Aug. 23, bringing the back-to-campus rush starting the week of Aug. 16 and continuing through Aug. 22. The majority of the activity involving the return and arrival of thousands of students involves residence hall move-in days, and motorists in the city campus vicinity are advised of several lane closures and possibly driving delays Aug. 19-22.
Lanes will be closed on 16th, 17th and Vine streets for temporary move-in parking Aug. 19-22. Most students will move in to their halls from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 and 20. Many students living in the Courtyards at 17th and Vine streets and the Village at 16th and Y streets began moving in Aug. 16. more...
New Online Campus Maps Released
A major update to the UNL Online Campus Maps launched this week, incorporating Google Maps API mapping service and technology as a foundation. The new maps do not require Flash, making them more compatible with a wider variety of devices.
The maps provide a strong infrastructure for expansion as progress on Innovation Campus continues and also allows both city and east campuses to be viewed at the same time.
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky; Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky and Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work. Both films will show through Aug. 26.
