Lincoln, Neb., August 17th, 2010 —

Fall-semester classes begin at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Aug. 23, bringing the back-to-campus rush starting the week of Aug. 16 and continuing through Aug. 22. The majority of the activity involving the return and arrival of thousands of students involves residence hall move-in days, and motorists in the city campus vicinity are advised of several lane closures and possibly driving delays Aug. 19-22.

Lanes will be closed on 16th, 17th and Vine streets for temporary move-in parking Aug. 19-22. Most students will move in to their halls from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 and 20. Many students living in the Courtyards at 17th and Vine streets and the Village at 16th and Y streets began moving in Aug. 16.

Students and parents should plan for delays since parking near many residence halls is limited. Students and their helpers have been advised to use drop-off, move-in parking for one hour only near their assigned residence halls, and to visit the UNL Housing move-in website, http://housing.unl.edu/movein, for the latest information on assigned parking for each residence hall. The special move-in zones are limited to 1-hour parking; after that, vehicles are required to move to alternative parking locations.

The housing move-in website also has suggestions and tips on what to bring and not to bring and how to move; and checklists, forms and instructions for the check-in process.
