Computer Shop Joins UNL Marketplace

The UNL Computer and Phone Shop today joins the UNL Dairy Store as the second participant in the UNL Marketplace, a unified online shopping mall for UNL storefronts. The Marketplace has been developed to provide all UNL organizational areas with a single infrastructure for online transactions, integrated into the UNL website.

The UNL Computer and Phone Shop specifically serves UNL students, faculty, and staff, with products and services offered to all accredited academic institutions and their employees/students at educational prices. Computer Store products, Dairy Store products, and more information can be found on the UNL Marketplace website.

 

Weapons Across Time
Weapons Throughout Time' Exhibit Ends Sept. 19 at NU State Museum

Time is running out to see the University of Nebraska State Museum's "Weapons Throughout Time," an exhibit that explores weapons spanning more than 9,000 years of history. The exhibit, shown in the Cooper Gallery on the third floor of Morrill Hall, is set to end Sept. 19.

"Weapons Throughout Time" features select artifacts from the museum's extensive collection of weapons that have been used for defense, survival, and ceremony. Visitors have a close-up look at the technology and cultural influences found in weapons used throughout time and across the world, from 13th-century Samurai swords to World War I automatic weapons. more....

UNL Earns Share of Grant to Build More Robust, Secure Internet

Byrav Ramamurthy, associate professor of computer science and engineering will lead the UNL team.

UNL has earned a share of millions of dollars in grants awarded by the National Science Foundation to help spur the development of a more robust, secure and reliable Internet.

UNL is part of a Rutgers University-led research team that aims to develop a future Internet design optimized for mobile networking and communication. The team was awarded a three-year, $7.5 million grant for the project called "MobilityFirst." The project reflects the shift of Internet traffic from PCs to smart cellular phones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. more...

 

Women's Center, LGBTQA Hold Open Houses

The Women's Center and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Ally Resource Center will host open houses, 3 to 5 p.m., Sept. 2 in the Nebraska Union. The Women's Center is in room 340, while the LGBTQA Resource Center is in room 345. Both events are free and open to the public.

Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing is Tomorrow

The APC hearing on proposed budget reductions will be held on September 3 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center on City Campus. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions.

MTV Casting Reps on Campus Today and Tomorrow
MTV

MTV casting reps will be on campus today interviewing students to compete on the television network's next season of "mtvU Student Bodies." The program pits two teams in a head-to-head fitness competition. The winning team earns an all-expenses paid trip to MTV Spring Break 2011.

The MTV interview session is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sept. 2 in the Gaughan Multicultural Center, room 331. Interested students can e-mail contact information, a photo and why they want to be on the show to castme@mtvu.com
