Larkin Powell and Family
Powells to Share Lessons Learned in Namibia

The first talk in the School of Natural Resources Outreach Seminar Series will take its audience to Namibia. Located in southern Africa, Larkin Powell and his family lived there during his Fulbright Fellowship year in 2009.

Powell, professor of conservation biology and animal ecology, and his wife Kelly will present "Living with Lions in Namibia: How Three Suitcases and One Year Changed Our Lives" 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Hardin Hall Auditorium. more...

'The Quilted Conscience' Opens at Quilt Museum

The International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the exhibition "The Quilted Conscience: Dreams and Memories" Sept. 14-Oct. 17.

The exhibition features a story quilt made by 16 Sudanese-American girls under the guidance of quiltmaker Peggie Hartwell, a founding member of the Women of Color Quilters Network. The girls use the American story-quilt form, a tradition of their new country, to share the tribal stories and customs of their families' old homeland with their multi-ethnic Nebraska neighbors. more...

 

Registration Accepted for Human Trafficking Conference

UNL will host the second annual Interdisciplinary Conference on Human Trafficking, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at the Embassy Suites, 1040 P St.

The conference open with a keynote speech by E. Benjamin Skinner, the first person in history to witness negotiations for the sale of human beings on four continents. Skinner is the author of "A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern Day Slavery," a book about those who live in slavery, those who have escaped from bondage, those who own or traffic in slaves, and the mixed political motives of those who seek to combat the crime. more...

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Wild Grass and I Am Love. Both films will show through Sept. 23.
